What is /are grits? How are they made?
Another one for the Americans.
I'm a Southerner, so you can believe me! 
Grits are ground up corn. Not cornmeal, not hominy. You get either white or yellow grits, and the color depends upon the color of the dried corn kernels. They are cooked by sprinkling them into boiling, salted water and whisking well. Cover, lower heat, and cook anywhere from 5-20 minutes, depending upon which type of grits you buy (quick or regular). In the South we eat them w/ salt and butter. Up north, they put milk and sugar on them.
