what is the main purpose of a hammer drill?
i already know its for Heavy Duty..but what..example??
Hammer drills are primarily used for drilling holes in concrete, brick, masonary joints, marble (if you're careful) and stone. The bits that are used usually have a Carbide Tip that doesn't get ground down to quickly by the abrasive materials you are drilling.
The 'hammer' in hammer drill refers to the fact that as the chuck spins it also has a rapid hammering action that helps the bit pentrate through the material.
Some examples of what you might need a hammer drill for would be: To install concrete anchors for bolting things to concrete floors, walls or ceilings.
To install anchors in brick for hanging a heavy picture or mirror.
You can also drill holes all the way through a wall, floor or ceiling to run cables, wires or small pipes.
Using an industrial or heavy duty hammer drill will allow you to drill a hole in these materials up to 1" in diameter. These types of heavy duty hammer drills usually have a setting that allows hammer action only (no rotation) so that a chisel or other type of bit can be used to chip concrete, brick, etc. similar to what a jackhammer does.
