Can a catflap be fitted in a non-flat Panel Door?
My door is a 3 panel one, so the catflap is too big to fit in one of the 3 dents. If I cut a square and attach the catflap the way it says on the box I will have a hole in the middle at the top and bottom, since the sides will want to attach to the raised parts of the door. Any idea what can I do? Without changing my door obviously.
Can you cut the width of the flap down to equal the width of the recessed panel? If so, you're set. If not, you will need to get some 1/8" melamine board (like they use in the back of kitchen cabinets and vanities) or some non-finished masonite and some small decorative trim. Cut the hole to fit the flap and cover the rest of the open recessed panel with the board. I would glue it with PL premium construction adhesive. Put some decorative trim (cut it to 'frame' and glue with same stuff) around the whole square to jazz it up and 'finish' it and it should look ok. Do the same thing to both sides of the door. You can paint the board if you give it a light sand with a fine Grit Sandpaper and prime it with an oil based primer first.
