How do I change the ignition switch in my '93 Jeep grand cherokee?
I have the security bits but any other info will help.
Pretty easy, since you know about the security Torx bits.
Take loose the column's plastic trim. You need a philips screwdriver, the screws are in the bottom half. You might need work the tilt to get the top one completely out of your way.
Use your bit to unscrew the complete "black box" switch assembly screws and just wiggle the entire box loose. Unplug the wires. Now put your replacement back on.
I can't think why Chrysler went with this setup, it's like "steal our cars" or something it's so easy. If you haven't bought one yet, it's common to buy the switch assembly (and key) from salvage yards. They work from Dakotas, Caravans, Neons, all sorts of similar year Chrysler/Jeep vehicles. If the junkyard switch assembly seems to look just like yours, it is. The ones that won't work for you are of radically different design.
