What's the best way to cover black paint on a banister?
We've just moved in to a new property and the previous tenants decided it'd be a good idea to paint the banisters black!!!! When we viewed the property we thought nothing of it and that we'd get it sorted easy. We've applied paint stripper and that helped take the paint off of the hardboard that's in between the spindles but not the wooden top. I've sanded that down to the wood on most of it but it's taken 4 x tough Sand Paper on an electric sander!!!! Some one has suggested silver paint to cover it and then whatever colour we want, i.e. white, and the silver paint will stop the black bleeding through...... Any ideas and/or suggestions......? Seek the advise of people at your local Home Depot or Lowes. This can be tricky and expensive with poor results if not done properly.
