i need to know what tool i need to fix my rear end axcels...?
i am trying to take out the clip for my 1993 jeep grand cherokee,but dont know what the name of the right Socket Tool is called...i went to autozone but they said i needed to be specific..can someone pls tell me what the name of the tool is that i need? pls be specefic...size...what it looks like...the name...i know its some kind of torx or Hex Socket...
If you don't have the tools you need sitting around the garage you probably shouldn't be messing with your axles.
You need a 1/2" socket and a 3/8" Drive Ratchet handle to remove the diff. cover. When I did mine it was a 1/4" wrench for the lock pin, not 5/16, but mine was a 1997, so maybe they changed. Get one of each - 1/4" 12 point box wrench and a 5/16" 12 point box wrench just to be sure - you can't use sockets on that, there isn't enough room. Once that pin is removed you can partially remove the pinion shaft and push in on your axle shafts - the c-clips will now be in view and they will either fall off into the case, or you can have a friend remove them. The shafts can then be pulled out. Don't forget the friction modifier with the gear oil if you're running an LSD.
