Who invented the first swivel vari-angle LCD on a camera?
its obvious that vari-angle came from canon. but im just curious. who is the first?just a bit curious!
This question needs clarification. Are you asking about a variable angle, swivel LCD on a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera, a fixed lens digital camera or a video camera?
Other than the fact that Canon sometimes applies their own "names" or terminology to make their products sound unique when advertising popular features that are commonly called by other terms there is nothing obvious about the variable angle feature origins.
Video cameras had folding, swivel and tilt viewfinders by around 2000 if not earlier and I suspect that Sony was offering that feature on their professional models significantly earlier than that.
In terms of "point & shoot" models Canon & Olympus were early adopters of tilting screens on some of their high end models (Canon G1, October 2000 & Olympus C-5050, October 2002). Olympus was the first to incorporate a variable angle live view screen in an interchangeable lens DSLR (E-330, January, 2006) and their E-3 model was one of the first with tilt and swivel capability October, 2007.
